On behalf of the Management and staff of the Corporation, I welcome you all to this formal presentation of three certifications from British Standards Institution (BSI) on Information Security Management System ISO/IEC 27001:2013, IT Service Management System ISO/IEC 20000-1:2011 and Business Continuity Management System, ISO 22301:2012
The ISO certification is an international standard that helps organizations demonstrate excellence and prove best practice in achieving its mandate.
The objective of implementing the certification project is to ensure that the Corporation adopts best practices that will ensure achievement of its vision of being ‘the best Deposit Insurer in the World by 2020’.
We are proud to announce that the NDIC is the first (public) organisation in Nigeria to be certified with the three standards at once. Through hard work and dedication, the Corporation was able to achieve this accomplishment.
You would agree with me that the impressive performance of the Corporation is as a result of Management’s desire to enhance the level of operational readiness to deliver on its core mandate as well as continuously improve on the delivery of processes and services to its stakeholders through greater information security, efficient IT management system and a robust business continuity system.
Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, the Corporation has adopted robust information technology (IT) to drive its processes, it has invested massively in Capacity Building as 53 staff have been trained and certified on the three standards including the setting up of a world class Training Academy and the adoption of a Continuous Performance Improvement System to track and measure performance at all levels.
The British Standards Institute had thoroughly engaged and audited the Corporation in April and July 2017 to determine the conformity to the standards.
The three certifications provide a widely trusted endorsement of the Corporation’s excellence that can further boost the confidence of our stakeholders.
I would like to assure you that NDIC will continue to take the lead in addressing the challenges of the financial services industry in Nigeria. Furthermore, the Corporation is poised to engender professionalism and accountability in the discharge of its responsibility in order to maximize the benefits due to all stakeholders.
It is pertinent to inform you that the Corporation is a leading member of International Association of Deposit Insurers (IADI). The core principles of IADI are anchored on best practice which are consistent with the objectives of ISO standards. Furthermore, the Corporation is implementing a 5-year Strategic Plan that has been aligned with the specific objectives of the three (3) ISO standards.
We thank the British High Commission, our ISO Consultants and many others here present for recognizing our modest efforts at implementing best practices to earn this award. We treasure your continued support and guidance. We assure you that we will not rest on our oars in ensuring that we maintain the standard we set for ourselves.
A lot of work and commitment is required to implement the plans as the surveillance audit will commence today by BSI.
I wish to once more, thank the British High Commission, our ISO Consultants and many others for taking their time to celebrate with us.
