2.0 Hon. Minister, distinguished ladies and gentlemen, as you are no doubt aware, for more than twenty years, the NDIC which is charged with the mandate of depositor protection has remained an active financial safety-net player in spite of many daunting challenges. Apart from guaranteeing banks’ deposits up to the limits permitted by the provisions of its enabling statutes, the Corporation has been involved in the effective supervision of insured institutions as well as the resolution of problems of failing and failed deposit taking financial institutions so as to ensure the stability of our banking system.
3.0 I wish to therefore attest to and acknowledge the proactive role of the management in taking far reaching initiatives designed to enhance the capacity of its key strategic resource, which is the human capital. The important role played by the highly skilled and professional staff of the Corporation to the effective discharge of its responsibilities cannot be over emphasized.
4.0 The establishment of the NDIC Academy represents another milestone designed to reposition the Corporation through enhanced capacity building initiatives. It is common knowledge that proactive manpower planning, recruitment, training and development is an indispensable tool in the present dynamic macroeconomic environment, hence the Management has the Board’s full support for these initiatives.
